Frame Score Chart
The Mini-Highland Cattle Frame Score Chart, helps you predict the ultimate size of an animal early in life. You can use it to predict the final height of any animal aged between 6 & 36 months.

Note: Cattle are like children, sometimes they have a growth spurt later in life; so while the frame score chart will be mostly accurate, 100% accuracy is not achievable.
Instructions:

Tape a measuring tape on a stick that is about 1.5m long. Measure the height of your animal from the ground to the top of the "Pin" or hip bone above a back leg. Alternatively measure from the top of the animal's back (at the top of the pelvis) to the ground, and subtract an inch.

Using the correct chart (Cow or Bull) find the age of the animal on the left-hand side. Then look across the chart, and find the height that's a little above your measured height. The number at the top of the column is the animal's frame score.

Example:If a Bull is between 11 and 12 months old, use the 12 month line across. If the Bull is 33 1/2in tall then the animal's frame score is -2, and you can expect the animal to mature at 41in. Be critical with your Bulls frame score, and don't be tempted to overstate his height, or lack of it.

Notes:
    *      This chart is an extension of the earlier charts of the American Hereford Association.
    *      Cattle over 42" at 36 months of age cannot be registered as miniature highlands.
    *      This chart has been extended to include the -4, -5 & -6 columns; those columns in particular, should not be construed as accurate until more miniature highland cattle size data is available.
    *      Although, it can be a helpful tool to approximately gauge growth rates and estimate ultimate mature heights.

May the saddest day of your future, be no worse than the happiest day of your past
