Ruatiti Highland Fold

Highland Cattle
Majestically Beautiful & Amazingly Practical

Scottish Highland Cattle are an ancient breed descended from the rugged stock that inhabited the Outer Isles of Scotland and are kept as an all round farm animal, prized for their great disposition, beautiful hair, hide and hardiness.

Even though Highlands have long "Handlebar" horns, they are even tempered and like many of the ancient breeds, do not stress easily.

Having higher intelligence than many modern breeds of cattle, they are easily halter trained, unlike some I can think of, that could do with a good kick up the you know what, oops, that’s the human version I was thinking of.

Highland Cattle are extremely hardy and can thrive where other animals could not survive. Their long thick shaggy coats and thrifty nature enable them to survive in all conditions. Highland Cattle do not require the constant attention that thin skinned breeds do, nor do they have the high percentage of calving problems that many of today's breeds experience. There is no other pasture animal that requires less work yet offers the beauty of Highland Cattle.

A good stand of trees is sufficient for protection in the winter weather and shade in the heat of summer. For those with little or poor acreage, Highlands are the perfect cattle to raise with minimum effort and expense.

May the saddest day of your future, be no worse than the happiest day of your past
